I hear people finger-wag about how “no one takes the time to read; content has to be in quick-bites; and we’ve all come down with collective ADD”.
We can argue about how much better it was back-in-the-day, and that’s an awesome dorm room all nighter, cheap beer and Dominos kinda way to pass the time.
But being a scold isn’t really helping anyone up-in-this-day.
That’s because whether things have actually changed, or it’s just your perception of them, doesn’t matter.
People do need info-bites. So let’s get them their info bites! They need a glass of water, not a fire hose. They need simple digestible pieces, not the whole beef Wellington, for them to move the needle.
My rule is always to find out how they’re listening, then start talking. Speak to what they can hear. Otherwise, the greatest genius message in the world falls on deaf ears.
