May is Mental Health Awareness month. And so it can be the easiest thing in the world to say, “Great, let’s just handle that then.”
The problem is that “Mental Health” is a bucket term that is impacted by a ridiculous array of inputs, including Biological, Social, and Psychological factors.
You can’t handle that middle part until you understand which of the ga-zillion co-conspirators are involved, and which of them are the most important, and how they impact each persons behavior, and why it developed from their history … it’s wicked complicated.
That said, we are beginning the conversation to better understand how to approach the issue, and this is a great start.
Oh and btw, the other great beginning we have made is to start to take the stigma out of mental health. Needing this kind of help doesn’t mean your crazy, and it doesn’t mean your weak. It’s just another part of health that needs tending from time to time, like your heart.
