2023 is freaking people out. The financial predictions and projections on this upcoming year are dire, bleak, gloomy … pick your favorite Eeyore descriptor and you too could be a TV financial analyst. For my part, I’m a sailor so I think of it in nautical terms.
Yes, companies do need to plan for the worst by trimming their sails a bit, but also by taking care of the most important part of the voyage, your crew. You do that by sticking to principles of personal and professional behavior for everyone from the Captain on down. This creates cohesion and culture across the board. Listen, we can only weather squalls like the one we expect this year when we’re a tight team, and everyone knows they’re a valued part of the crew.
Now more than ever, it’s critical to create the culture that will help keep you afloat through this upcoming (financial) low pressure system.
Okay enough with the sailor metaphors, lol, but I will leave you with a little bit of silver to line those looming storm clouds.
For New year’s eve I was with a dear friend on his boat in Sydney Harbor watching the fireworks over the opera house. Truly incredible and inspirational. It leaves you ready to face the new year with a sense of optimism and hope.
Wishing you all a happy health new year in 2023, may there be fair winds, following seas, and fireworks(!) in your future.
