Mindful Monday, and The Two-Way Street of the Mind-Body Connection

This article by Jane Brody is okay. Its title warns of the “Devastating Ways Depression and Anxiety Impact the Body”, but under-performs on its promise. It does cover this in a couple of paragraphs buried in the middle, and that’s fine.
But honestly the best part of this article is casually made a few times through its sections, referring to the mind and body as a two-way street. This a apt metaphor is a perfect way to look at the relationship between your physical and mental self.
- Physical illness has been shown to lead to conditions like depression and anxiety.
- But, depression and anxiety have been shown to lead to physical illness as well.
Knowing this can help us understand and then make sense of what can go on in our body and mind. And this can help us be kinder to ourselves, seek help when we need it (for body OR mind), and have patience with both processes of healing.
