The Top 3 Keys To Your March Makeover
The numbers are staggering, but somehow not surprising are they? By Valentines Day, over 80% of New Years Resolutions will be abandoned.
That makes this the perfect time for a March makeover. And we can do it without the pressure of having to “make up for” the fun we had over the holidays. So for this March, let’s apply the top 3 keys needed to unlock a successful Makeover.
And let’s just make it simple here at the beginning. Let’s just start with movement.
Key Number 1: Find Your Time
You know yourself. You know when you’re most likely to be up for exercising. For me, I have to do it in the morning because by 6pm I’m toast. But I know people who thrive later in the evening, maybe right after work. Others carve out space in the middle of the day, because their work schedule allows it and that’s really the only time that can work for them.
Don’t listen to what others say about when people should or shouldn’t exercise. You are your own guide, just be honest with yourself about what can be sustainable in the long term.
So for your March Makeover, set aside just 30 to start with, and choose the time of day that makes the most sense for who YOU are.
Key Number 2: Be Okay With Do-overs
I mean, yes this March Makeover is a do-over in itself (a do-over done right, btw), but for Key #2 I want you to be prepared for a possible do-over or two. But in this case, ditching Plan A won’t be a sign of surrender, but a sign of success!
How? Plan for it.
Again, you know yourself. You may wear out on exercise activity routines in 2 weeks, you may make it 4, or who knows you may make it all the way to the June beaches! Which one you are doesn’t matter, even a little bit. What does matter is that you are honest about your exercise personality, so you’re not blindsided by it.
And you can do that by thinking up front about a list of fall-back activities that you could do. This is brilliant, because it takes away any guilt of not doing your youtube dance-a-thons in your living room for more than 3-4 weeks.
If you can be consistent throughout this spring, do that. But if you can’t, now you have backups waiting in the wings to be sent in to your exercise rotation.
Key Number 3: How To Win At This Makeover
If you want a marker for what it means to “win” at this March Movement Makeover, I’ll tell you what it is. Just being consistent.
Plus, another difference between THIS makeover and those old January Resolutions is that we’re not punishing ourselves for the past 6 weeks of holiday candy, work parties, and eating so so so much of the most wonderful food you’ve ever tasted (since last December, that is).
You’re not making up for anything, so don’t punish yourself. Just complete your movement activity. Just finish, get through the day, finish the next day, then rinse and repeat.
Your goal is not to rip your abs, crush your quads, or hurt yourself in any way. Honestly, if you move and keep moving, then you win this Makeover. So pace yourself, and your progress is defined by showing up today, then tomorrow.
