What To Remember, This Mo-vember
There are stereotypes about men, but we can’t let this define us. And November, aka “Movember”, is the perfect time to stand up to these and not let anyone else define who we are.
Some common stereotypes about us men say that taking care of our physical and mental health is a weakness. But we can break through these ideas and chart our own course.
That starts by getting regular health check-ups from our doctor, like we would take our truck for a tune up. And this is a good thing, as early detection can catch issues such as prostate and testicular cancer before they have a chance to develop and spread out of control.
The other thing that’s commonly said is that men squirm around mental health issues. But remember, the brain is like the heart, liver, or kidney. It’s an organ, and sometimes it needs a tweak, and that is okay as well.
It’s in our strength to stand up to the stereotypes and change our own story. Masculinity is about being well for the people who depend on us and heading off these health issues before they break down our body. When we do, it puts us in a good position to keep moving forward, always there for our family and friends.
So this “Movember”, when you hear that “narrative” about men, re-write the story. Choose to get the checkups you need—to enjoy this life you’ve been given—for you and your loved ones.
