Thanksgiving “Myth-conceptions”
Posted On November 20, 2012
Okay, here’s whopper number 1: Turkey makes you tired.
Here’s the theory. Turkey has a lot of tryptophan. Tryptophan in your body can be converted to serotonin and then melatonin, both of which play roles in your sleep cycles.
But serotonin is also involved in positive emotions, but no one is calling turkey the “Happy Food”. It helps move your food through your intestines, but no one is worried that turkey is going to cause too-rapid digestion!
So, don’t worry that you shouldn’t eat a drum stick and drive, because you’ll go into a narcoleptic coma at some random time.
If you’re sleepy after your T-Day meal, it’s likely no different than any other lunchtime lull. The nice thing about Thanksgiving is that you can actually doze off take that nap!!
