Nutrition Month is 50 Shades of Crazy. Supplements are Downtown Crazy Town.
QUICK!! Take your pills, pills, pills, for health and vitality and more energy and better skin and deeper sleep and a 24 year old’s libido and less arthritis and depression and mania and stools that are too loose and stools that are too runny and pre-menopause and menopause and
post-menopause and [fill in the blank].
Ugh. As silly as I tried to make this list above, it is unfortunately pretty spot on. But take a step back from the ads you hear and see.
Your body is a physiology. It’s a biological miracle you walk around with every day. A gift. And this body is as it is because of the relationship it has developed with the things that grow on this planet. That relationship has evolved over the past few gazillion years.
The idea that supplements could better that starts at absurd, and goes downhill from there. Think about it … the notion that we could possibly invent something that could provide more optimal health than the food it was developed with over millions of years, lives in downtown crazy town. For a physiology that is not broken, the only logical solution is to provide it with the nutrients and conditions it has a biological context for.
That said, if the physiology is broken, that’s a whole ‘nother thing. Dude. Take your meds, don’t be silly.
But taking supplements to better your health makes zero sense. Add to that the fact that (as of this post) these pills are completely unregulated, leaving you with zero confidence that they contain what they say, do what they say, and don’t have extra contaminants.
