Building a Better Brain by Moovin & Groovin
Being active is not thinking, or doing puzzles, or sussing through brain teasers. It has to do with your muscles, cardiovascular system, and a whole lotta sweat glands, right?
Sorry class, you only get partial credit for that answer. Yes, being active does involve those systems, but it also impacts the nervous system too.
Whether you’re Einstein or not, your brain still requires more fuel than any other organ in the body. If you want it to work for you, you’ve got to get it what it needs.
Here’s something to think about while we’re thinking about thinking … even though it’s only about 2% of your body weight, your brain needs a whopping 20% of the oxygen. The way it gets them is through the vascular system of blood vessels and capillaries that haul needed nutrients up into the brain cells. (here’s a nice summary of the brain’s needs)
One huge reason you build a better brain by moovin and groovin on a regular basis is because this can improve blood flow through new capillary formation, and it makes the blood vessels you already have … better at doing what they do!!
And and and, doing right by your brain on the cellular level cascades into benefits that you realize — like better thinking skills, and better memory. Article from Harvard. So think about it! If you move more, you’ll be better able to think about how you should move more!
