The Resolution Solution: Don’t Be A Statistic!

Businessman presenting 'Your Success' word on white card.Approximately 80% of New Years resolutions fail by Valentines Day. This is a terrible success rate! But why is that, and what can we do to improve those numbers?

Start by making your New Year Resolutions fun. If you make it tough on yourself, you may start that great intention, but data show that people find it hard to sustain for very long. But if you’re doing something you find fun, that makes you laugh, or just enjoy your day more you’ll do it longer!

Ramp up slowly. Seriously, slow your roll. Whether your goal is for better nutrition, fitness, weight management or whatever, think about where you want to be and then create a long slow path to get there. If you plan to take your time, but go faster than you thought you would … well that’s just a great bonus for you!

Plan to restart. In other words, life just gets in the way sometimes and you may have to interrupt your resolution routines. This doesn’t mean you failed, it only means you paused temporarily. This may seem like semantics, but honestly if people feel like they failed then they stop. If they feel like they paused, then they give themselves permission to restart they’re right back on their way.

This year, take these suggestions to heart so you can make it to Valentines Day and through 2021!
